Black Hills Gold Rings
There is not a single jewelry that has a more suitable name than the one that makes Black Hills Gold rings. The name reminds me of the Gold Rush days and for good reason. This company has a history that is as rich as its jewelry and its legacy is still going strong today.

Driving Range
When the weather starts to turn nice in the spring, and my husband is missing, I always know where to find him. He doesn’t disappear very often without telling me where I can reach him, but now that he has a cell phone, he sometimes forgets that he needs to give me a heads up about his destination. Though there are many times when he might go to a driving range in the summer, it is like an obsession for him when springtime comes along. Perhaps for him it is proof that winter is truly behind us for the year and the warm weather is just around the corner.
You don’t have to drive very far from our house to find a driving range in our area. I think there are at least six of them within five miles of us. We live in a very small urban area, and there is a lot of room to play. Perhaps that is why you will probably find a driving range that is not far from your home no matter where you live. He spends a lot of time there, not that I mind. There are worse things he could be doing, and definitely more expensive things that he could find to do with his money.
I have gone to the driving range with him a few times, and we have even taken our daughter with us. She’s five, but she loves golf because he does. She likes to swing the club, and we decided to find a small club just her size and then take her to the driving range to see if she liked it or not. It took her a little while, but she was soon hitting the ball every time she swung. She did better than me, and I had spent more time on the driving range than she had. I know I’m a klutz though, and I’m glad to see that she isn’t.
Probably the best thing about the driving range is the price. You only have to pay for a bucket of balls, and you can take all the time you want to hit them. If there is a line of people waiting, you shouldn’t take your sweet time, but usually when we go to the driving range we don’t have to worry about that. Best Toys
When one of my friends asked me to help him work on a guide to the best toys, I initially balked at the project. It seemed like to broad an effort. After all, how would you rate toys? Would you look for the best selling toys, the best educational toys, or the most unique and unusual toys? Are tech toys inherently better just because they seem to be selling better, or do the classics get a higher rating because they have withstood the test of time? Thinking about all of these questions, I thought the project was impossible. Nevertheless, he convinced me to persist for a while. In retrospect, I am glad he did.
You see, a best toy guide is important for many reasons. A lot of the times, parents don't know what to get their children for presents. The right educational toy at the right time can really inspire a kid and make a huge world of difference. A kite might not seem like much, but it can be a great way to bring a family together. An electronics projects kit might not be as high tech as the latest video game system, but it can help kids understand how things work and inspire passion for a high-technology career. Barbie Happy Family
The Barbie Happy Family collection is fantastic. This is one of those concepts that is so brilliant but so simple that I wonder why on earth someone hadn’t thought of it before. We all know that Barbie is a role model for many little girls. She has had many different roles but until now, being a mommy wasn’t one of them.
Well, let me clarify. The Barbie Happy Family set offers a new character named Midge. Midge is pretty versatile. She can be an expectant mommy or a free spirited pal to Barbie. There is a wonderfully cute baby that goes along with the Barbie Happy Family package, too.
I think that this set is fantastic for a number of reasons. First of all, the items are simply fun to play with. My daughter spends a lot of time playing with the Barbie Happy Family. I have even invested in nearly all of the accessories that go along with the set because my child enjoys the items so very much.
I don’t mind the investment at all because I see it as a form of education for my daughter. She is learning valuable lessons while she plays with the Barbie Happy Family play set. Many kids her age find role playing to be very enjoyable. When a child role plays the bond between mother and child, it is purely heartwarming.
I love that the Barbie Happy Family dolls can be used to help younger children learn about babies in general. These dolls can be used especially if the child is going to have a little brother or sister in the near future. This is one of the most appealing aspects of these dolls. They serve as entertaining but viable teaching tools.
One of my favorite things about the Barbie Happy Family is the amazing detail. The dolls even have delicate wedding bands on their fingers. I love that these toys focus on family and relationships rather than shoes, clothes and cars. It’s nice to see my child learning about social interactions and close bonds between parents, children and siblings.
I also love that the items are so very durable. They have taken a lot of punishment and my daughter plays with the Barbie Happy Family incessantly. Many other toys would have fallen apart by now but this set is beyond durable. I’m very glad, too. I can see that she will be playing with the Barbie Happy Family for a long time to come.

Barbie Dream House
There are always things that every little girl must have. This changes every few years. I remember when I was in sixth grade, the ‘have to have’ item was a Cabbage Patch Kid. I never had one, but everyone else I knew did. A few years before that, the trend was to have a very large comb sticking out of your back pocket. That trend was infinitely cheaper than the Cabbage Patch, but was just as important. Before that trend, I remember the toy to have for a while was the Barbie Dream House. That was a long time ago, but I hear they are still around.
I remember having a sleep over at a friends house, my first one actually, and she had a Barbie Dream House. I was jealous, and spent a lot of time playing with it. She didn’t seem to care about it, but now that I have my own daughter, I kind of understand why. The dream and the desire to have something that everyone else has is much stronger than the actual will to play with it once the item has come home. It’s a lot like anything else. Sometimes the chase is more exciting than the end result.
Her Barbie Dream House was a lot of fun, but I think I would have lost interest in it rather quickly. Though I can’t really say that I had a very short attention span, I did prefer to play outside. Barbie and Ken
I grew up in a very close family. I spent a great deal of time with my sisters because I liked them. We were always best friends. I am the youngest, but my older sisters always went out of their way to include me in what they were doing. I even went along on some of their dates. We have maintained a close relationship as adults and still spend a great deal of time together. Our children are close to each other and have fun together.
One of the fondest memories I have of childhood is playing in the toy room we had in the upper level of my parent’s farm house. All of our toys and games were kept in the room. Mom rarely yelled about how messy it was kept, because it was our room to play in. My sister and I would play with Barbie and Ken dolls for hours. We did not have a great deal of money so many of the outfits for Barbie and Ken were hand sewn by our mother. The clothes are so small that she could make entire outfits out of scraps of fabric that were left from clothes she made for us. This made playing with Barbie and Ken even more fun because we could dress them in the same things we were wearing.
When my mother moved out of the farm house into an apartment for the elderly we had the task of going through the five bedroom home to divide up things that we wanted and to get the other things ready for selling. In the attic we came across a large box that was filled with all of our Barbie accessories. There were several Barbie and Ken dolls as well as the hand sewn clothing. My daughter and my sister’s daughter were helping us go through things. When they saw the Barbie things they could not believe that they had not played with them as children. Some of the gowns that my mother had made were truly beautiful. I did not appreciate all the work and details that she had put into the outfits when I was a little girl. My sister and I picked out a dress that had been made from the scraps of our oldest sister’s prom dress. We dressed one of the dolls and took it to our mom’s apartment. We told her that she should have it on display to show others the detail that she had put into it. She told us that making the doll clothes made her feel like she was playing right along with us. She proudly displays the doll and gown in her apartment. My sister and I both picked out dresses and have our dolls displayed in our homes as well.

Antique Curio
When my kids were growing up, it was easy to decide what to put into the antique oak curio cabinet. After all, we had very creative children. They were always involved in arts and crafts, from the time they were very little until they graduated high school. We would fill the antique curio cabinet with drawings, sculptures, pinch pots, clay figurines, and all the other beautiful decorations that children make. Once they left the house, however, it seemed a little bit absurd to keep the cabinet filled with their childhood art projects. For a while, it was nice to have it there because it reminded us of how much we missed them, but soon we realized that, as they were moving on with their lives, we had to move on with ours.
It took us a while to decide what to fill that cabinet up with. We had some antique china, but it was only really enough for one shelf. We knew that we needed some more objects, but we were not big collectors of anything. That is how we started to accumulate, one piece at a time, a great bunch of antique curio.
The first item of antique curio that we ever got for that closet was an old pocket watch. My grandfather had an antique watch when I was growing up, and one day he gave it to me. I lost it on a camping trip unfortunately, and to this day it is one of the biggest regrets of my life. Needless to say, when I found an antique pocket watch just like his in a local store, I was overjoyed.
Soon, there were new pieces of antique curio joining the watch. We found a fine, ornamental antique compass. It didn't work anymore, but it was extremely decorative. It probably was part of a ship at one point, and was large and easy to read, with beautiful gold letters. It fit perfectly in that antique curio cabinet, right beside the pocket watch. My wife had a few antique dolls in storage, and rather than keeping them in a dark cupboard somewhere, we decided to add them to the cabinet. Soon, we added my old class ring, a few wedding photographs of our grandparents, and an antique toy car – one of those windup models that was popular before batteries. Although I miss my children living with me, it is nice to be able to add new life to that antique cabinet. Life, after all, must continue.

Am I Pregnant
Have you ever thought about the relationship you are building with your children? So often parents are so busy trying to provide a home, clothing and food for their children that they forget how important it is to take the time to get to know their children. They may know where they are and what they are doing, but they do not know what their dreams and fears are. As a family therapist I recommend regular relationship building time between each parent and each child.
As I mentioned I am a family therapist. At times this is a difficult and awkward position to be in as a parent. Many things that I say to my children cause them to become upset with me because they think I am using psychology on them. Also I feel my children are scrutinized more because of my position as a therapist. I have had people comment that my kids should be well adjusted and happy given my expertise. I am blessed with very close relationships with my children. I attribute this to taking the time to spend with them consistently. When my kids were teenagers we would have outing nights twice a month. On outing night I would take one of the children and we would spend time together. Sometimes we did something special but usually we just stopped and had a coke and talked. Now that my children are adults I have kept up doing these outings.
My daughter is married. We have always had a very close bond. The other day we met for coffee. She walked in a few minutes after me. She walked up to the table I had chosen and asked am I pregnant. I asked her what she meant. She rattled off a list of symptoms that she had been experiencing. After she was done with her list she asked again am I pregnant. I told her that there are so many reliable tests available over the counter that she should go and buy one and find out. She has been trying to get pregnant for close to two years, so she is much in tuned to her body. We went and bought one of the home pregnancy tests and took it to our family home. She went into the bathroom and came out immediately. She had left the test strip on the sink, she was too nervous to look. I went into the bathroom and shut the door. I no sooner had the door shut and she was repeatedly asking am I pregnant. I could see by the strip that the answer to her question was yes, she was pregnant. I opened the door and she could tell by the joy on my face that she was going to be having the first grandchild for the family.
